TCS New York City Marathon

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Ahead of the TCS New York City Marathon, Staten Islanders should plan their weekend trips carefully.

The marathon will bring full closures to the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and two Staten Island Expressway exits.

The MTA will close the upper level of the bridge beginning at 11 p.m. on Saturday night, Oct. 31, to allow for roadway preparation. At this point, the lower level will still be accessible.

Closures on the lower level will begin at 7 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1. Both levels are expected to reopen at approximately 3 p.m. on Sunday.

The Bay Street and Lily Pond Avenue exits on the Staten Island Expressway will be closed from approximately 3 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Motorists can call the Verrazano-Narrows Marathon Traffic Hotline at 718-692-5656 to hear information about the closures.

Those who need help finding an alternate route should call 511 or visit the website at For other marathon-related roadway closures throughout the city, call the NYC hotline at 311.

More than 50,000 people will be taking part in the marathon this year, which will bring closures to roads all around New York City. Check the marathon's website for more details.
